It was a thing in A19 that 9/10 times you could find the chest at/near the SW corner - not anymore! At level 1 so far, twice the chest was near in the SE corner and the last time it was dead central in the zone. /not sure if JaWoodle will laugh or ... It counts down to within 3m of the target, and the yellow guide on your compas will also guide you toward it's location (it's not like the old buried treasure quests where the location was left vague). If you can narrow it down to a wall / a room / a floor, then you're 99% there.

In A17.exp, I just did a trader quest to find buried stuff. It was under uneven ground. I believe it was three blocks down.
